How to Set Up a Hookah: A Step-By-Step Guide

The excitement of hookah is how it can make you experience relaxation and taste different flavors. But for beginners, setting up a hookah may need to be clarified. However, there is no need to worry as this 5-step guide has helped you become a professional in hookah setup within no time.

5 Simple Steps to Set Up a Hookah

Step 1: Gather Your Hookah Components

  • Collect your hookah base, stem, hose, bowl, coals, tongs, foil, and screen if you prefer using one.
  • To avoid an off-putting taste, ensure all the components are clean & dry.
  • Identify the grommet as a small rubber or silicon ring at the bottom of the stem where it meets the vase.

Step 2: Fill the Base with Water

  • Water should be poured into the hookah base, so it slightly gets to the bottom of the stem.
  • The function of water is to cool down smoke and enhance its taste after being filtered through it.
  • Avoid overfilling because that may obstruct airflow and affect drawing.

Step 3: Insert Stem Into The Base Carefully

  • The stem must be Inserted and the Hose Attached. Insert the stem into the base carefully, ensuring the grommet is in the right position.
  • The stem needs to be vertically aligned to prevent any air leaks.
  • Locate the hose port on the side of the stem.
  • Push the hose into the port until it clicks.

Step 4: Bowl Arrangement and Foil Preparation

  • Fill the bowl with your desired hookah tobacco as instructed by the manufacturer.
  • If you use foil, place it gently over this bowl, but ensure no wrinkles or spaces in it.
  • When using a screen, put it on top of the foil, preventing tobacco from falling out.
  • Make some holes on the foil or screen with a toothpick or needle so that air can circulate around and heat up your tobacco leaves.

Step 5: Coal Preparation and Ignition

  • Use a lighter or a torch to light up coals.
  • Ensure all coals glow red evenly before putting them on foil or screen.
  • Start with two coals for the medium smoking session.
  • Alter coal positioning relative to screen or foil to control smoke density by heating.

Thus, setting up a hookah may seem difficult, but you can enjoy the strong flavors if you follow these simple steps. You should also maintain the cleanliness of your hookah, adjust the temperature to your preferred level, and cherish the calming experience.
